hey guys. have a look at this laptop 4 me plz . I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive mobile editing system to run CS3 (premier, After effects ect) very well.

I dont want a desktop at the moment as i dont have an office and work from home, and i'm not fond of the idea of SOME clients coming to my home.

U guys think this is decent to edit DVX footage (and HD if needs be) without breaking bank ?

The Video card is pretty nice in the machine, however its only a dual core 2.2ghz processor. Its not clear if this is a 65nm or 45nm C2D processor as well so there could be a 10% performance reduction just depending on how old the tech is.

You also have to be weary of Laptop hard drives since alot of vendors tend to put the cheapest slowest drive that they can into it to cut costs, and the data rate from the hard drive may not be fast enough to edit 1 stream of DVCProHD (100mbps + 30 mbps for audio)

In Premiere Pro CS3. You should be okay editing 720P 24Pn DVCProHD footage at 2.2 ghz, however you will find that editing the 1080 60i stuff may not work at full framerate. Try searching for editing benchmarks to see if there are CPU usage indicators for different kinds of video formats at different framerates.

The video card is nice. You'll be able to play some decent games on it ;)

Try to consider getting a desktop built for you for editing if you can live with being locked to your desk. You'll get a lot better performance with less money.

hey demistate...thanks for the prompt and informative response. really appreciate the feedback. I'll mostly be editing my dvx footage on this...but i just wanted to be ok incase i have hd footy to edit for sum1. I'm really looking to get both a desktop and a laptop eventually. So i wanted a decent laptop now that isnt gonna kill my budget (trying to get my light kit 2)so i can be mobile and concentrate on desktop a bit later. Mobility is key for me now. thanks again.

I will look into what u have said

aight...i'm deciding to get this quad core version, and i would like some advice http://www.gateway.com/systems/product/529668248.php

I will be mostly editing my DVX footage however i will have the opportunity further down in the year to work with a producer who i'm gonna convice to get an HMC150 (really for my benifit :D). I dont know yet but i'd like to be prepared. I use PPCS3. Couple questions:

1. THis comes with 64bit vista. Are there any compatability issues with 64bit vista and PPCS3 (or CS4 if i decide to get it.)

2. I would like to get Magic Bullet Colorista at some point on this machine BUT the site says Colorista is not supported by vista 64bit. Is this still the case??

3. Do u think this machine is adequate for the job of dealing with AVCHD from the hmc150? (desktop is out of the question as mobility is key at the moment)
