Gas prices

I'm not a strategist by any stretch of the imagination so I need you guys to tell me why this wouldn't work.... It's Canada day here in Canada (where else!) and the gas prices have risen to the occasion. To me, this shows that some ****ing greedhead somewhere knows that we will all be making trips this long weekend and it's a perfect oppurtunity to cash in on all that surplus cash we Canadians have leaking out of our pockets. I say we all truly band together and boycott one gas station and starve the bastards out of existence!!! and if the gas prices don't drop, we move on to the next oil company. We keep boycotting individual companies till someone yells uncle and the greedheads realize were mad as hell and were not gonna take it anymore. Individually we have no voice in this matter, but if we start yankin on the nuts of Esso or Shell I believe things would change in no short order. But yes....We would all have to band together to get it done!!!

I know, I know....1 to say this topics bin geaten to death do as search.......

Because the price of crude oil is controlled by OPEC. I don't think there is much the gas companies can do.

It's controlled by market forces. Right now, China and India (mostly China) are ravenous for oil. Increased demand plus static supply equals higher prices.

So it's just by fluke that the prices go up on long weekends....I'm not buyin that!

Well, that's certainly true -- prices raised when people will be using it more. Still market forces, though.

Its not about boycotting, its about driving less. The Great American Society is about to crumble when people finally react to gas prces by staying home. Expect $3 gas by Christmas.

Great American Society = G.A.S.

One thing that I do, is I don't spend any other money at the gas station. Pop, smokes, candy, milk, etc. I know, they don't control the prices, and some of them are small business owners also(although most are owned by bigger corporations). But I just hate to give more profits to someone who has so much control over OUR pocketbooks. Especially, as Mino says, during holidays. So, if every Friday, and every holiday they decide to jack the prices a quarter a gallon, they aren't getting another cent out of me for anything else. Probably makes no difference, but at least it makes me feel a LITTLE better...

I can't even fathom what the price per gallon will be when little Jared is my age. I agree with Mino; someone is a greedy whore. Just like when Summer rolls around and gas prices go up. When is it gonna be 3.00 a Gallon? 3.50?

Bullshit.

Has anyone seen the new Honda (I think it was Honda?) Commercial where they are boasting about having *12 cars that get 30mpg or more*......so it doesn't matter how HIGH gas prices get.....etc.

Cute. Real Cute.

Thanks for reminding me how much gas prices suck. At least I can still get a gallon of milk for less than 4 dollars.....oh....wait.....!!

I remember in oh 1990-91 a big story in the news that claimed some scientists had a way to get nuclear fusion off the ground (fission - fusion the one the turns water into energy)...It was a big deal....Them BAM! Some undisclosed bunch of other scientists debunked the whole idea as complete and utter gibberish. I'd be willing to bet my next years wages that that formula is sitting in the vault of the Opec gods at this very moment collecting dust. Things of this nature put me over the top because somewhwere in the back of my underpowered cranium, I believe it's true.

You raise a good point.

Gasoline is one of the cheapest liquids out there. By quite a bit.

How much is a two-liter of Coke?

How much is a six-pack of beer?

(And how much of that $1.04 is tax? That's an honest question. I was referring to US prices, of course . . . )

Yes you are right, and if I had to fill up my car with beer, I'd not be writing this but scurrying around in the sewers with monster weapons. Since we're on the run of cheap fluids, if my car ran on bottled water I'd be OK since I can still pick a case of those up for way cheaper than gas. I guess if my car needed only a couple of gallons of gas for the week then your argument would pass, but when that same car needs 20 some odd gallons the cheapness of the liquid argument loses me.
