Garbage matte?

When applies it occupies the whole screen..
is there a way to apply it that would occupy bottom half of screen
What i want to garbage matte out it a box a guy is sitting on
Any suggestions?

It starts out full screen by default. Go into the effect properties, and you are presented with options for changing the corner point locations. Drag them to where you want.

how would you feather it... edges look way too sharp!

Edges may look sharp in the Preview window while scrubbing the timeline, but will probably look smoother if you render a preview or render out a clip.

no, i too had the sharpness problem... can one feather the edges of a garbage matte?

No and also you can not invert one in prempro unfortunately.

You can do all this in AEFX tho'

I used garbage matting a lot before I got into After Effects and it is a pain for the results you get. So if you are planning on doing anything more complicated than a box or two, I'd suggest saving yourself the headache and using AE.
