Garbage Matte HELP!

If anyone can help me with this, I'd appreciate it!
I have a clip with a woman opening shutters from the upper part of a window. There's a perfect rectangle of sky that I'd like to superimpose another image in. Problem is her head is at the bottom of the rectangle. I'm new to FCP and the help menu, book and dvd tutorial, aren't clear on the solution...or I'm suffering from FCP burn out

Thanks- Rane

Re: Garbage Matte HELP!

No such thing as FCP burn out! Live, breathe FCP! Ha ;D

Although FCP makes a pretty good wanna-be after effects at times, there still is a reason to own it. This is the perfect case. As you've probably seen, the garbage matte in FCP is an 8 point garbage matte and I'm guessing the gal opening the window has more than 8-points (or is she square :)

If she doesn't move too much, you can make a static mask in Photoshop, otherwise AE is the way to go.

Your other bet, if there is a solid color currently in the window, is to apply a Color Key or a Luma Key, apply the Color Key filter, then select the color.

Hope this helps,

The APPLE PRO TRAINING SERIES BOOK Advance Techniques for Final Cut Pro is the Book to have!!!! It goes deep into detail on how to do lots of stuff! I did some garbage matte stuff a few weeks ago that I posted in the Screen Grabs section.

Paul Crisp makes a free collection of garbage mattes up to 64-point. Get them for free at kenstone dot net
