Garageband Question: Pitch has changed, "Follow Tempo & Pitch' grayed out

Howdy Folks,
I didn't see a GB forum but hope it's ok to ask here.
I have Garageband 3.0.4. (104.7). I tried to slow down a riff without changing key but turns out I didn't. When I discovered that, after having exported it, I went back to Garageband to fix things and found that 'Tempo and Pitch' was unchecked, though I don't remember unchecking it. It was also grayed out. Even when I changed projects.
What happened and how do I change it back or reset, and will doing so change the key of the riff I'm playing with, as seems probably?

Eek, I have discovered why "Follow Tempo and Pitch" was unchecked and grayed out.
However, I still don't see why the key of the riff in GB has changed since "Follow Tempo and Pitch" is still checked. I even checked the .aif itself and it is still the same. Is there any way to reset GB?
