Gaffers Tape???????

I live in a very small town in Canada. I have never seen Gaffers tape anywhere. People here look at me strange when I mention it. I hate ordering on line so I was thinking of an alteritive. Any suggestions? I already know Duct tape but would Hockey tape be simmilar. We have lot's of that here and I think it has the same tackiness. It can be molded and easier to manipulate then duct tape. It's also easy to rip crossways but not when you pull on it. From what I understand these are the same quallities as the much more expensive and elusive gaffer tape. Help!

Part of the appeal of Gaff tape is the glue it uses. Much UN-LIKE Duct tape, ( not sure about Hockey tape ) Gaff tape leaves little to no residue once removing. Duct tape is notorious for leaving nasty residue on anything its applied to. Not really made for removing and not really ideal for use in the Video Production / Film world. The real question to ask is, how does the glue from Hockey tape act? is it as easy to remove? or is it a guey mess?

You might want to think thrice before using it to tape down your video & power cables to someone's living room rug.

Sport/hockey tape is REALLY close to gaffer tape. I had to tape up my tripod once and I just KNEW it was gonna be full of glue when I finished. Once I peeled it off, you wouldn't even have known is was there. I think you'd be OK with it.

I buy it pretty cheap on ebay, and never had any worries. It's kind of funny though, I have been on several shoots with "Pro's", yet I'm the only one that ever seems to have actual Gaffer's Tape.
