No not a movie lol, yet.

But does anyone have any experience taking a desktop on an airplane?
or is that a big mistake?
i need to get my G5 overseas.
whats a safe and easy way to bringing it on a plane, if any at all?

im open to any advice. thanks!

Some musicians I've known have had this issue and have had road cases built for their G5's. You might even be able to find used ones- check ebay and your local music shop.

G5 Case

I second the Pelican case. I just bought a brand new 1660 (the big one) for my camera so it can be setup with 35mm adapter, 24" rods, folow focus, 7" Monitor and lenses and never need to be put together. It only cost $240.

This softcase is also much bigger than the average carry-on size, so you´d have to check it in and for this a Peli or similar is probably a must.
I recently asked sth similar here regarding external HDDs, so I´d suggest to take out all HDDs out of the G5 and take them as carry-on...
You might aditionally secure the G5´s procs somehow, maybe wrap a blanket around them so they can´t move when being tossed around...
Good luck!

i trusted my HVX200 + allllllll my cinema gear to "throwers" on the airline, once it was in a pelican case. Thoes bastards are rock solid. and lifetime waranteed,

But they still throw it around, don´t they?
I mean, there´s the foam inside the peli to absorb, but there´s still the g-forces(?) tearing at the insides/electronics of the camera or HDDs...
But maybe the peli case was just to big and heavy to toss around at the end;o)

You have to remember that if you got your G5 through UPS or Fed EX, most likely it was thrown around just as much as if you were to fly with it.

I don´t think so.
If sth happens while delivered through UPS or Fed EX, they can track down the person who did it.
Try that on a transitairport.
I´m pretty sure there are other quality standards for delivering packages than for moving luggage around, I´ve seen my luggage drop down on these mechanical belts, but my laptop was hand delivered;o)

I wonder if they would charge extra and if so how much, for taking one on a plane. Those G5's weigh a ton! (i have one myself)

Go to any UPS and ask them about packing standards. Basically the last time I was there shipping something they told me that in order for them to insure it it had to be packed a certain way in order to make sure a fall from a certain height would not break the package. If you really think UPS and Fed Ex treat packages nicely do a google search for UPS and package handling, or Fed EX and package handling, or throwing. They really are no better than the airline. What we may consider rough, UPS Fed EX and the Airlines consider normal handling. It is our responsibility (Unfortunatly) to make sure that things are packed in a way that they can take a fall. Remember the 8th grade science class where you had to drop an egg from the second story and not have it break :) Now is when those skills come in handy.

I still have the original box with all the foam.
so that should help i think. maybe i'll pack it back up and have it sent to me.
it was shipped to me in the original box.

I thought this thread was about a snakes on plane sequel. Mother f***ing G5's on a mother f***ing plane.
Bwa ha ha
Please watch this, "Christopher Walken" early auditions to play Samuel L. Jackson's character. Also has Jack, and Pesci.
This is a classic.

i brought my G5 back 2 years ago to Taiwan. Fortunely, i still have my original box of G5 and on top of that i wrapped around with bubble wrap. At least 2 to three layers. It was freaking ugly! And of course i don't care because people know you cool because you got G5. But i "guaranty" you doesn't matter how many luggages they throw on top of that...that's nothing they can crash that sucker. Don't forget to tell the front counter to tag your Monster Bubble Wrap a Fragile sticker. That would help also.

Blakey thanks, think thats what im going to do.
if you dont mind me asking, how much did it cost and who did you use?
im shipping mine to japan.
