hi,
i'm going to buy an internal SATA drive for my dual processor G5. any brands you can recommend and places to buy from? Maxtor has a 300GB SATA drive at compusa for $250. has anyone installed a drive bigger than 250GB in their G5?
anyone know if Seagate drives are better than Maxtor? thanks for the info.

Re: G5 internal Serial ATA reccomendations?

I have a Seagate in my G5 and it works great. It seems like a lot of people that need reliable drives go with Seagate. It see them over at the studios all the time. But of course I haven't heard anything terrible about Maxtor. :-/

Take a look at the Hitachi drives. Many pros recommend them over the other brands. See 2-pop.com for details.

Re: G5 internal Serial ATA reccomendations?

The Hitachi drives are the same as IBM drives. There are good drives, I have a travelstar in my powerbook. IBM and Seagate usually are ahead of everyone when it comes to drive technollogy and they've been around and reliable. I've never owned a Maxtor so I can't comment on how well they work. I tend to stay away from the "Bargain" or Huge amount of gigs for too good to be true prices (which Maxtor is known to be) because I don't trust price over quality when it comes to my data since that is your life on there. Isn't it?

Re: G5 internal Serial ATA reccomendations?

My G5 shipped with a Hitachi 250GB, so I installed 4 more exactly like it... works great!

IBM and Hitachi joined forces a couple of years ago and make very good parts.
