I've got FCP 4 that works just fine for me, but computer getting long in tooth. Thinking about getting 14 inch, G4 iBook, 512 ram, 60 gig harddrive, running Tiger. Anyone got one, does FCP work ok on that hardware? Thanks.
How do you manage running FCP on an iBook when the computer cannot support a second monitor that shows a second window (ie, the NLE on the laptop and the video you are editing on another monitor?) Do you just strain your eyes and while viewing everything on the 14" screen?
I'm trying to decide between an iBook and a 15" powerbook. Money is an issue.
Unless you absolutely must have a portable, you could get a refurbished 1.25Ghz Mac Mini for $399.00 from Apple. Bump up the RAM and you're still under the $500 mark. I bought one of those little guys for capturing and basic cutting to free up another system for burning DVD's.
Nice little rig, I think.
Also, based on my experience of owning an 867 P-Book, I think you need at least a 1G processor to re-insert the 2:3 pulldown from a 24P timeline when exporting back to tape...
*in re: to dual monitors... The Powerbook I have can output to a VGA monitor for dual, non-mirrored displays! Very cool feature! The newer one's (1G and up) have DVI so you could drive an Apple Cinema Display if you wanted to...
