G2 Transmitter/Receiver Repair?

I have two Sennheiser G2 systems and like an idiot, left batteries in them for a long time without use. Needless to say, the batteries corroded the inside of all four pieces (2 transmitters, 2 receivers) and now they work very sporadically, even after trying my best to clean out the insides.

I'm going to send them back to Sennheiser for repair unless someone has experience with this and can suggest something different. It'll be a costly repair, but far short of buying new units.

Any advice? Before the battery corrosion, they worked flawlessly. Will the repair be able to restore them, or am I S.O.L.?

How far did the corrosion permeate into the units? Is the copper clean where in leads from the battery compartment into the innards of the units or does the corrosion go all the way to the little slot where they stick out from? Also are the copper plates intact or did the corrosion eat them and leave holes or very thin material?

If the copper is clean where it leads into the innards, and if the corrosion has not eaten up the copper, then very fine emery paper can be used to sand the terminals clean, holding the unit in such as way as to keep then sanded material from falling into the unit. Once that is done, there is some cleaner used for cleaning (and neutralizing) the battery terminals on your can. Spray a little into a cup and use a q-tip to apply liberally onto all the copper that's visible. You can then use a clean q-tip to remove the excess. That should do it.

If the corrosion goes all the way to the slot where the copper strips enter, or if the copper is eaten away, then a trip to sennheiser is in order.
