G-Raid 500 problems and FCP

Has anybody ever had problems with the G-Raid 500 and fcp? Parallel Glitches???

I am editing HD P2 footage- (Mac Quad g5 2500ram- latest fcp and QT).

At first I thought it was the camera- the clips play fine in the camera.

Next I thought it was the p2 store and the importing process- clips play fine in the import box but not well in the timeline or project.

Then I realized that my older clips are acting up.

I thought it might be that I didn't have enough capacity on the drive- there was around 55gb left so I got rid of some stuff. Now there are less than 70gb left on the drive and I have heard that it need at least 15%-20% to run well- it is still not right? Do I need to get it to 100gb capacity?

Everything was fine for months (even with less than 100gb capacity) and now all of my 24fps (720 24pn) footage has parallel lines glitching through them. The slo mo footage looks fine pretty much all the time. The sad thing is that i haven't backed up the footage. I ran clips of old footage from another hard drive and they played fine so it seems that he problem is with the hard drive and not the fcp program. The hard drive seems to be working harder than before- winding up, taking more time, making some noise, etc....

Anybody??? Thanks

Sounds like time to copy your footage off the drive, and erase and reformat the drive. If it keeps acting up after than, then it might be pointing to a drive failure.

Thanks Shane.

I think you're right... I'll do that with the Mercury Elite Pro 500 (FireWire800). Then soon I am going to order a GRaid 1000. Any other low cost HD's you would suggest besides Gtech? The Mercury should be fine for this dump and reload right?

OH...Do you think the footage will be corrupted? Please somebody say it should be fine...

Footage isn't corrupted, your drive just isn't holding up. I use a G-Tech 1TB as a storage unit, I have edited a little off it, works great. I personally like G-Tech and OWC drives.

And technically, a drive needs only 10-15% of it's total capacity to be free space.
