G.I.Joe

There are rumors that he will be Cobra Commander. All that really matters is the voice and the mannerisms.

Most movies are going to be worse than Transformers :) as of today it is at $706 Million in world wide BO sales. It was a huge hit.

G.I. Joe is going to be interesting, Paramount has several scripts for it and are still undecided on which one to go with.

When I heard about Transformers three years before it was at the box office I thought it was a really stupid idea and wondered who would want to see it. Ha! Shows you what I know :) It's still making big money overseas. I'm not sure if it is out on dvd yet but that'll add another $100mil to the tally.

From the director of Van Helsing. That alone is enough to keep me miles away from the thing. Not to get too political, but I don't really know how it will play in these troubled times.

I had a basement full of GI Joe's back in the '80's (still have a lot of them, although they've started snapping in half, must be some sort of rubber band holding the torso to the legs that's deteriorating), but I never liked the cartoon. As a military hardware junkie, I was mostly pissed that they all seemed to be shooting some sort of laser or something (which probably had something to do with reducing the perceived violence level or something). :)

The thing that I don't know is, can you do a GI Joe movie today? I mean, you've got this super-elite, super-secret anti-terrorist unit, and they're wasting their time chasing a dude in a low-rent Darth Vader mask, another dude in a low-rent Man in the Chrome Mask outfit, and some chick with glasses rather than any of the actually dangerous terrorists out there? I mean, in the combined Marvel Comics and TV run back in the 80's, did COBRA actually kill anybody? (OK, Snake-Eyes a couple of times, but he always miraculously came back to life like any good Marvel hero. :D )

Oh, yeah, that's a good sign.

Van Helsing was a bigger movie than Matt Reeves previous movie and Cloverfield is already at $133 milion in worldwide sales 3 weeks after it premiered. Cloverfield cost less than $24 million to make.

Did anyone really say I'm not going to see a movie from the director of The Pallbearer before they went to see Cloverfield?

Let's judge it after we see it, fair enough?

A) I didn't like Cloverfield or The Pallbearer.

B) Deep Rising, The Mummy & The Mummy Returns were also pieces of crap, so I'm going with the trend there. Who's directing is usually a pretty good gauge of how the film will come out. Yes, sometimes a Curtis Hanson comes along (who made the mediocrities Hand That Rocks the Cradle and The River Wild), and delivers an LA Confidential, but chances are, you hire a mediocre director, you get a mediocre movie, especially from a director with a lousy track record. So don't get your hopes up.

Tough sub. I like Steve Sommers stuff. I think they have the right director if they're after somehting fun/adventurous.

That's like saying Britney Spears is good music because she sold a lot of records.
Sales should never gauge how good or bad any medium is.

All kidding aside... I thought Transformers was pretty good. Not bad, not great, but entertaining. I knew what to expect walking in.

G.I. Joe will probably be terrible. Time will tell though...
It would be nice to see a trailer in order to get some idea first.

Yes! I unfortunately threw out a ton of those figures when I was cleaning out my parent's old house. They all suffered from that same malady.

Now as for this movie, I'm pretty stoked. Destro, Storm Shadow....Ray Park playing Snake Eyes.

Sienna Miller and Dennis Quaid are in it, so it's gotta have some credibility...right?

Bah

Her stuff is pretty good inspite of the Poppy Fluff of of it. Her trainwreck life shouldn't bias the truth of her music. It is what it is. Pop Ido Fluff, but catchy dance music.
