For those who live/work in the Philadelphia and Cleveland areas, may want to rethink any work plans using wireless mics during the conventions...
The FCC has announced that the spectrum allocated for wireless mics is maxed out. The reason given is due to the interest given to the respective campaigns and due to increased international media presence at the events, as well as the cities having a fuller spectrum of regularly operating TV stations. The article indicates this has not happened before.
One of the measures used, was to relax the 300 KHz separation between mic frequences, allowing for only 200 KHz... with the 'belief' that random placement of mics would not cause problems between mics close in frequency... Having been to a number of Las Vegas shows... I'm pretty sure there's going to be less than ideal 'random' placement and will cause problems... Then again if anyone says something untoward and is pick up by another news service... rating go up...
