Just curious if anyone knows if the Sony FX1's Cineframe24 setting (shooting standard DV) will match fairly well with the DVX's 24p footage. For instance, if you were doing a multi camera concert shoot with 2 DVX's and a Sony FX1. Thanks guys.

The timing of CineFrame 24 is off. For a static sit-down type of shot it might look fine, but for anything where there's motion in the frame it will look very stuttery and odd.

In 24p, every frame occurs at an even interval in time, so motion is "allocated" across frames evenly. For a set of two frames, that means each frame would get allocated 50% of the motion that happens. In CineFrame 24 it doesn't work that way; something like 40% of the motion gets allocated to the first frame, and 60% is allocated to the second frame. So you get a weird herky/jerky start/stop type of thing happening.

Again, for a low/no-motion scene like an interview it might be fine. But for faster motion it would be problematical.

I am currently shooting with a FX1 and I have mixed thoughts about the Cineframe effect. If you are using the FX-1 solely as a cutaway camera it might be cool. I just saw a concert where they would cut away to a camera with a similar "cineframe" type effect. I have been using Nattres film effects in FCP to create 24 frame footage. Check out his site. If you processed your fx1's video with the Nattres suite I think it would cut in just fine. I'm only 45min from where you live so if you need another camera, or want some test footage (from th FX1 processed via Nattres) drop me a line.

So very true. I have an FX1 and that is exactly my experience. Seems the worst is moderate speed motion. like medium speed pans. You get that jerkyness to it, that is unattractive.
