FX not showing on Preview screen

Hi. New guy here! I've been using Vegas 5 for about a year now. All the sudden the effects I ad ( color corection, film noise, etc ) are not showing up as being on the clip, but when I render it, it's on the clip. Never had this prob before. Any thoughts?? Maybe I hit a button to not have it show on the preview screen? I can't find anywhere to fix it. Thoughts??

Oh, if it matters. 1g ram, 64 amd processer, 500 g hard drive, matrox vid card.
 
you probably have the bypass effects button checked. It looks like a little box with a line down the middle of it, with a positive negative circle in it. It is right next to the video out preview monitor button. check the pulldown box and you will see that bypass effects is checked.
