FW drive blew up the FW port on my deck -- help!
Hello all.
I've pretty much been a lurker to these parts, learning a lot, and hoping eventually to reciprocate, but I've got a problem now that I haven't seen posted anywhere here, and I'm hoping someone can help.
I need to find a reputable Panasonic repair facility in the London area for my now ailing AG-DV1000P mini-DV deck.
I should probably back up and explain...
I've recently become a resident of the UK (Cambridge), coming immediately from the Boston area. Just before I left, I boxed up my NLE along with some serious 220 to 120V, 1000W regulator/transformers, and put them on a slow boat the the UK. As it happened, it took over a month for my effects to finally arrive from the States, and despite all the precautions that I took with regard to the power differences between the UK and the States, it seems that one of my Lacie FW drives (which at the time was being powered off 220V UK, managed to fry the FW port on my miniDV deck (which was being powered by one of the 1000W regulators). At the time of the mishap, the deck was connected to the drive directly.
I'm not sure exactly what happened, as there were other 120V devices hooked up to the regulator at the time, but some kind of electrical mishap took out the Lacie FW port on the hard drive and the FW port on the deck. Nothing else was damaged except the power strip that the deck was connected to. The deck continues to play tapes correctly, and I managed to extract the hard disc from the Lacie D2 case without a problem. The data was totally fine.
But now, I need to find someone to fix my deck so I can start editing all the new stuff I've been capturing since I got here.
Anyone here have any idea where I can go?
Thanks much in advance.
