Fuzzy Titles

I saw this question posted in 2003, but no answer. So I'm asking again.

I've gotty fuzzy 3D titles in FCP. But only when it's placed over video. Over black it's nice and clean. Should I be using a different setting. i'm going to keep messing with it but hoped for a direct answer from someone who'd battled this already.

Thanks.

Ok if you can get it get a magazine that is called P3 it is a production magazine in there is an artical this month that talks about compression. Most editors have probs with tittles and high end graphics for one reason compresstion. Most people do not do a real offline online situation with there projects this is a problem. So let me gess. You shot your project and captured it and now are editing in a DV enviorment. Remember DV is a 5:1 compresstion. So when you shoot in the camera you get a 5:1 compresstion not good but not bad. Now when you take that footage into FCP and use a DV codec to capture it and make it into a DV Sequence you are adding another 5:1 compresstion. Now your image quilty has been compressed 10:1. But thats not what we are talking about. Now say you go make a beutiful 3d or other graphic in another program such as after effects or motion or something. And you bring that into your FCP DV squence it is then subject to dv's 5:1 compression and will not look as sharp, the colors will be faded and it just dosen't pop. The best way is to do an online edit when you are adding tittles and do it in a 8 or 10 bit uncompressed squence. That way you will not have to deal with DV's compression. Now rember it is going to take alot of room. So what I do is capture and do all my editing DV. and then do an online and do all my titles and CC. So I get the best possible image from DV. I hope this helps the artical go into it alotmore and it is awsome. I had the same prob for along time. and would always sratch my head wonding why it looked so good in motion but **** in FCP Good luck
