Hello fellow DVXrs, thanks for checking in, my question here is:
Is Commotion still being made, becuase the last one I can find's back in 2001, and although it recieved quite astounding reviews -

http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/review_commotion_pro.html

its over 5 years old and compared with AfterEffects 6.5, which as we all know is well behind 7.0 . . . . do any of you know if its still got significant advantages over AE (7) and worth getting.

And for those of you still reading (thanks!) what type of learning curve, roughly how long, to learn Fusion 5.0 which looks the bees knees if you please.

commotion is pretty much dead. I miss some of the roto tools, but roto
updates to shake, fusion and the standalone siholuette have really filled
the gap.

Fusion should make you happy and the fusion job market is expanding.

For me the big 'jump' in the learning curve for Fusion was getting the basic idea of node-based compositing; after that it's just a matter of figuring out the best ways to use the tools that are available, as with any other effects program.

If you're still considering Fusion, there are a few hundred megabytes of Fusion 5.1 videos free to download at:

http://www.neufgiga.com/partage_neuf.php?share=LNK8448456a0a53d7a22

demonstrating how to work with it and what the tools do.

Edit: oh, and while I think about it, eyeon just started a Fusion wiki at:

http://www.vfxpedia.com/index.php?title=Main_Page

So that's another source of fairly detailed information on the software.

fusion :love4: (pc, linux now as well) is the within top 3. next to shake (apple).
once you master it, you will never go back to after effects.

fusion supports majority plug-ins from after effects, and has lots of own (for ex. http://www.speedsix.com).

hardest learning curve would be - node base & composition.
I learn it, within 7 days (15 hours a day).
Lots of great tutorials at: http://www.cmivfx.com/

90% vfx hollywood movies go thru fusion (ex. superman, king kong, da vinci code, matrix reloaded, aviator etc.)

ps. DOS lol, miss those days, nc.exe, wolf3d.exe, prince.exe, doom.exe, arj -x *.*, type config.sys etc.
