Fur Windscreen with Foam, or without?

I'm thinking of getting a fur windscreen for my Oktava MK-012, but should I get a foam to go between the mic and the fur windscreen, or just use the fur windscreen without the foam?

Well, what you really need is a BBG (mini-blimp) and then you can get the fur windsock to go over that. Or just get a full blimp (well short sized to match the Octava's length) and windsock.

Given the handling noise issues associated with the Octava, I don't think foam+fir will work well. Any slight movement of the fir will probably transfer directly into the mic that way. Lowest cost option: BBG+fir.

I'm afraid the budget won't allow for such nice things. I've got to think of a way around it. How about this?

I built a pvc shockmount not unlike the ones found in the DIY forums. I'm thinking of Gorilla Glue-ing a traditional microphone grille onto one end of the shockmount, creating a DIY zeppelin-end, if you will. that would put a layer of dead air between the mic and the grille.

Over that, I could slide a fur windscreen over the entire shockmount creating
a DIY fur-zeppelin of sorts. Would that even work?

you can work with out the rycote , use 2 separate foams 1 small , 1big ( 1 inside the other ), and make home made fur to cover it up , working with my schoepses

in general you only need foam for indoors.

for outdoors you use either foam and then the furry dead rat over that or just something like the rycote softie that is the dead rat with a rubber base with a sort of mesh between the fur and the mic.

but again the oktava is best used indoors.

indoors = hypercardioid - oktava - schoeps - etc
outdoors = shotgun - sanken 3 - sennheiser 416 - etc.

for low budget you can't beat exile's advice.
