Funny as heck

gives a whole new meaning to getting pumped for college football.

who else is pumped?

There's nothing wrong with j#*#ing off in a bell in front of a few thousand cheering people. I mean, don't knock it until you've tried it...

Give the guy a break!

Man that is some funny stuff. I can't stop laughing. Now I finally understand why G**gle paid 1.6 billion for YouTube.

First the Miss Teen South Carolina and now this. The south is not being very well represented online. lol

pk ...... happy Thailand unblocked YouTube so he can watch men faux-masturbate on live tv.

This isn't a judgment on anyone, but it's merely an observation of human behavior.

Anyone who wonders why Hollywood continually puts out what you consider to be "crap," witness the popularity of this clip. (Consider whether or not you personally enjoyed it.)

It's what people find funny and engaging. Movies full of it are what sells. That's neither good nor bad -- it's just the way it is. It's where the money is.

Or, consider how popular the clip with Miss South Carolina is -- people love to watch other people making fools of themselves. Would it have been worth anyone's time to watch if she had given a PhD-level answer?

It's not the "Hollywood machine" which is to blame. It's just what the bulk of people want to see. Hollywood scratches an itch. But it didn't invent the itch.

i think you've just hit the head on the bell, so to speak.

I agree, but sometimes all these bad (stupid) videos can actually make us hungry for the good (smart) videos. After all, a man can not live on groin hits and bell ringers a lone. When hungry we must watch videos of actual substance or we (and our brain cells) will die.

Exhibit A*:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vr3x_RRJdd4

* Trust me. It's not a Rick Rolled and it's not Chocolate Rain.

That's one of the most popular videos ever posted on YouTube. It got 17 million views because it rang a bell in the hearts of all mankind. It touched us all ....a lot! And we liked it and wanted it more and more.

That was a cool video PK.

And the bell ringer made me laugh out loud. It's just simply funny. No thought required. Just enjoy it for what it is. I don't see a comparison to that and 'american pie' or 'what the hollywood machine is putting out' though. The latter, is grotesque/shocking for the sake of humor. The former is just the 'humor of the situation'... to me.

And, the same with the video pk just posted. No thought required. No words required. Just enjoy it for what it is. Someone else took the time to think it up. The simplicity of these two videos makes them good in their own right... to me... free hugs. No one had to wait 12-16 weeks to get their free hug in the mail :) Just right there if you want it.

For what it's worth (nothing)... I liked them both. The much more popular 'free hug' video will stick with me. The 'bell ringer' was funny b/c of the situation, and it entertained me for the moment.

And to borrow from David's argument from the pageant thread. You can't take a bell ringing video and use it as the sample, saying it's 'what the bulk of people want to see'. Case in point... it has 120 thousand views. Free Hugs has 17 million. Free Hugs is 4 and a half months newer than the bell ringer...

my opinion anyways.

It seems that hollywood is avoiding being cliche by telling everyone they are trying to be cliche, because trying to be cliche is the least cliche you can get.

I confused myself.
