fund raising

I know its almost impossible at an indie level. But what is the best way to raise money for a feature? Shooting on RED with some well known film makers of the area and a pretty great story. Any recommendations?

Hmm with me its direct investment myself - and or co-production with a production company (that realises the potential of the project) as a capitol funding partner (and yourself providing services/gear in kind.)

Have your well-known film makers hook you up with some executive producers.
Labors of love are motivated by... well love, not money.
You'll find funding is easier to get once you have some product under your belt.

We have a small marketing team. Their job is to find business that would like to have scenes shot at their location, (for a small fee) if it fits in the script. But we get most of our funding from musicians who would like their music played in the movie or during the end credits. And they name of their band listed within the end credits. They are usually excited about that.

Greg sounds like an interesting concept, can you devulge what that scenario looks like with the actual price tags attatched to each service your company has to offer?

Cheers,

DogDay.

Well, hopefully you've done your homework on the back-end (production, distribution, market), have a great business plan an even better pitch and killer demo reels with trailers. What about your script? Does it meet all the criteria advocated by Blake Snyder in "Save the Cat"?

I assume your crew already has a great track record which should help you network with the funders. Depending on your movie/genre, you might try the Dov SS Simens approach (lesson 50-51).

Good luck, Michael

For the last film, our prices were.

$2500 To shoot a scene at a place of Business. This included a sign to be shown and a mention of the business name & Logo in the locations and Thank You section of the end Credits.

$1500 For musicians included a mention of the band name & Logo (if available) and Thank You section of the end Credits. Also a music snippet to play within the movie and End Credits.

most grants that go to filmmakers have to revolve around a certain subject (depending on the requirements the people awarding grant money stipulate)

it's worth researching, but make sure you get someone who knows how to write a grant effectively.
