Full-frame Sony NEX-VG900 Video Camera

I really find that hard to believe. I doubt sony would kill off the EA50 so quickly by pricing the vg9000 at around 3000 euros. Also, A full frame video camera doesn't make much sense as most cine lens don't cover full frame... I could be wrong, But even if it does come out, i doubt It'll be 3k. Also, vg9000....Is it me or does that sound like a consumer variant, maybe a replacement vg20? Which will likely mean high megapixel counts to impress consumers....

Whatever the case, I look forward to seeing what Sony pulls off with this. Looks like with this and the EA50, sony really is trying to kill off DSLRs for good.

well, i think that's a hint about whats to come from sony.... they seem to fight back (finally) but not against Canon or Nikon, but against Blackmagic-Design with such a camera. The A99 is rumored to have 120fps at 1080, and 240 at 720p at a rice point of 3.000-4.000......If the F5 will come next year i presume that it'll be a 4k cam with 240fps at 1080....
next month will be a blast for all us tech-nerds!!!

It's probably a 3000 euro body with no EVF, no storage, a bare-bones box, whereas the EA50 is fully equipped.

Here's to hoping the sensor has a very small pixel-count!

Could you imagine the low light capability if that was the case!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?

And if they have the SAME codec as the FS100 (which I doubt since it is rumored to have a lower starting price point, however this could be a loss leader since we all have to by FF E-Mount lenses anyways) then the low light would be out of this world!

Also based on the argument that a new lens system would be needed to satisfy the FF E-Mount camera, this is a growth business case for Sony, so from this standpoint, a device like this seems very VERY plausible.

Apparently it's rumoured to have 24 megapixels. That won't help aliasing and it certainly won't help low-light. Also, it'll go for 3,300. Not sure if its true, though.

the 22 megapixel 5d MK III doesn't show moire though it has a highres sensor, so if sony did a good job it will be a great camera...?

There is still moire, just not a lot, and a lot less than the Mk2. But that is because they put extra optical filtering infront of the sensor, which is why the Mk3 is very soft.

Completely wrong "information". There is nothing in front of the sensor (except the usual aa filter), otherwise stills would be very bad.

24MP in full-frame is around 11MP in APS-C. Meaning, the photosites are much larger than most other cameras and pixel density is relatively low. Keep in mind, most APS-C cams are 16-24MP these days. 24MP for a full-frame is on the low-end for a sensor this coming generation.

Most modern sensors don't use line-skipping techniques anymore, which is why aliasing is dramatically reduced in high MP cameras.

I thought this was just a misinformed rumor. I was wrong. WOW. Full frame 1080p60 with very nice lens mount and in videocamera form factor for $3300!! http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/0...-VG-30-APS-C-model-and-18-200-power-zoom-lens It seems it's only the usual 24 Mbps (24p) and 28 Mbps (60p) Sony AVCHD codec, but, apart from it being 420, it's not a bad codec at all, and that CinemaTone Gamma thing could (just could) be great, if it is a near-log profile that uses all the DR available from the sensor (no small if, I know; it's not the first time I read about this CinemaTone thing, anybody knows how good it is on other cameras?).

My thoughts exactly. It is a great headline. However....

This can create some uncertainty. Reasonably so.
But if it can be hacked pretty quickly to facilitate less compression, well then...
I'd be feeling pretty confident with this camera.
