I know it's not really special effects, but I didn't know where else to post this.

For a short film I'm doing this summer I'm going to need certain actors to be certain colors. One actor has to be a teal-blue and another has to be a yellowy-green. Etc.

I looked into the Blue-Man group style makeup, but they have an always wet look, that I don't want at all.

What I think I could do, is get a bunch of food coloring and water. Mix to get the right color and then dunk my actors in the water.

The only problem is that the food coloring thing, while cheap and easy isn't the easiest thing to wash off. You know, because it doesn't wash off...

And the actors are volunteers (getting paid in pizza and beers). We'll be filming like four days on, four days off for a month or so, and I don't think they're gonna want to go home or to their real jobs with dyed skin.

What are my options here?

Purely those colors, like the Blue Man Group but not so shiny, or just a touch of those colors to tint regular skin? Obviously wet applications are going to be wet looking, but tinting could be easier. Solid coverings are possible, but I'll let someone more experienced comment on that.

Guess I should have been clearer.

The characters' skin tones would be those many colors. We don't want it to look like make up, but rather that their skin is that color.

That's why I wanted to do food coloring, but it's not super plausible with the tentative shooting schedule and you know, real jobs, that my actors will have.
