Fujinon Cabrio 20-120 price drop?

Haven't seen anything official on this but B&H currently has the 20-120mm Cabrio listed at $13,999. Everywhere else I've checked still has it at MSRP, which is just over $18K. Would be a pretty significant price drop if it's intended. Maybe an official price drop will be coming at NAB?

Check out what I found on B&H Photo Video http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1251350-REG

A typical B&H "Instant Savings" to push product...although it's weird it's a special order item with an instant savings.

Dollar/yen conversion, happens all the time on their still cameras. Could also mean they are bringing out something new to replace it, maybe an active PL for cameras that can grab focal length, focus distance, aperture setting.

Feel bad for the guy in the Marketplace that had one for sale for $14,500 last week. And my friend that bought one like a week after Christmas...

The 20-120 has LDS/i connections on the PL.

Okay, I gotta ask...

Who purchases a 14-35mm Cabrio servo zoom for $42,000?

WHO??

Anyone ever even seen one being used out in the field / on a film set?? What is the market for such a zoom?

Maybe a lens used for jib shots?? How often does anyone need slow and smooth in-shot zooming from 18mm-24mm?

The 19-90 I understood at the time and saw them out. I even saw the 85-300's, which make a lot of sense, especially for us sports guys. But the 14-35 I just laughed at and asked my rep kind of the same thing, who in the hell would get it. Even as a wide angle junkie, I shook my head.

So tempted to plunk down some cash and get a lens for doc/eng shooting and the 20-120 cabrio ticks all the boxes with the price drop. I will say that I am tempted by the Angenieux 30-90, but the timetable to get one in my hands may be too long. Zeiss told me 7 weeks from order for their 20-120 at the moment as well.

I did see one post about the Cabrio 20-120, which gives me some second thoughts though:

Not in love with the optical vignetting when lens is wide open and at max focal length portion of the zoom...

Feels really strong and noticeable.

Any thoughts?

Well... it's noticeable shooting a white wall, with the waveform on. That would probably not be the case in real-world shooting. In a "real" shot at 75-120mm range, there's almost always going to be some kind of subject in the central half of the frame. And for that matter, it's so common to add a vignette in post these days, that it may not really even be a drawback. It would be a much bigger problem if the falloff was more noticeable on the wide end, but it's quite well controlled. Just my two cents.

Fair enough! I've shot with this lens a couple of times and never noticed it all....but I'm not a pixel peeper at heart.
