Fuji X-T3 released

Is anyone making a Canon EF to X-mount FULLY functional adapter that includes aperture adjustment, IS and AF? Hello Metabones?
Seems like there are many of us who would dig fully utilizing great Canon lenses like the 70-200 2.8 IS II or III on the X-T3 and its cousins?

Check out https://www.fringeradapter.com

Mine arrived yesterday and I put the Canon 10-22 on the X-T3 with it and did some quick stills tests. Focus and speed are good, and it's got an aperture adjustment ring as well. There are a number of positive reviews on youtube so I didn't feel like it was too big a gamble.

If you sell some other gear, or just hit the lotto, forget the adapters and get the beautiful 50-140mm they have.

P.S. Just saw you really love the Canon.

From a practical standpoint, I need to keep the 70-200 2.8 IS II to use on my C200 so I would rather utilize it over buying another Fuji tele zoom that could only be used on the X-T3. The plan is to buy the X-T3 with the kit 18-55, then buy either the 10-24 F4 or the 16mm F1.4 for gimbal. Use the 70-200 2.8 IS II on the Fuji for the occasional tele shot although I would probably still being the C200 on most stock shoots.

I am mainly buying the X-T3 as a gimbal camera and as a stock footage shooting rig although my production partner and I discussed finishing the rest of our second documentary we have been in production on with a pair of the X-T3s. We will hopefully be doing a 3 week road trip shoot all over the country and the idea of hauling around a backpack with the X-T3 and a gimbal beats lugging the C200, Sachtler, big lenses, etc. It will be largely interviews with various craft distillers all over the country so small and light, unobtrusive, easy on a gimbal, ability to shoot some good PR stills too is becoming VERY appealing. From what I see, the X-T3 would be leagues easier for this type of informal, fast and flexible shooting. Thinking about the SD MixPre 3 for sound, it will sync with the X-T3 HDMI output so even though dual system sound is a PITA, it is bearable for interviews, then wireless and on camera Røde for b-roll and gimbal.

Ahh, good to know. Fringer, huh? Pretty funny name. Let us know how it continues to work with other Canon lenses as you try them.

Waiting on the HLG update this month. 1000 native ISO in HLG could mean a good option for higher ISO shooting. Will be interesting if it also offers increased dynamic range like it did in the GH5S.

The Fringer adapter definitely seems to be the best one in terms of auto focus and IS. The auto focus didn't seem smooth enough for focus change while recording in the tests I've seen. However I have heard it depends on the lens being used.

I am hoping Lens Turbo will do a minolta to Fuji adapter. I have a nice set of Minolta lenses I'd like to use with my XT3 in full frame view.

My guess is that HLG is like a DR800 mode, ISO160 with a 3-stop push to ISO1280 and digitally pulled to ISO1000, more highlight latitude at an expense of more shadow noise.

I just got one. It works pretty well so far. A little more wiggle on both ends of the adapter than I like but I have more lens options now with IS.

Thanks Erik, let us know when your review is posted, this seems very encouraging! So IS, aperture, AF, lens data reporting? Does the wiggle degrade the optical performance? Does the Fringer add or enhance CA?

All lens data is reported. Mine doesn't have any wiggle on either side of the adapter.

Cool. Just ordered the Fringer, X-T3, 18-55 f/2.8-4.0, 16mm f/1.4, glad to be joining the club. I really didn't have the budget but then an end of year client payment hit early and we needed the write off too.
The X-T3 is our new gimbal and stock footage/image machine. Will be selling off the 80D probably now although I am told the X-T3 is too slow for shooting action sports type stuff where you need 7-10 fps
with quick AF? Anyone shooting any fast action with their X-T3? What kind of fps and AF tracking performance have you achieved with it? The 80D was actually pretty good for stills on our latest documentary
shooting thousands of BTS, promo and marketing content for our film. Hope the X-T3 can handle that, I'd rather not have two still cameras and two sets of lenses for stills.

With tweaking of the menus it can be pretty damn good:

Welcome to the darkside, Dan!

Using the X-T3 for sports would be a compromise, but I'm sure you'd get by just fine (check YouTube for some samples).

If fast sports stills were your main living (or you at least needed pristine capturing for a certain project), you'd rent the 1DX Mark II (14-16fps) or a9 (whopping 20fps). Probably some Nikon too.

Meant to follow up 10 minutes after the post above that the T3 actually shoots up to 20fps via electronic shutter (if that would work).

Thanks guys, I'll have to play with those settings. Meanwhile, a few general X-T3 questions for you all who have them and have been shooting with them?

1. Cards - I have the 256GB Sandisk Extreme Pros, which are V30 cards. Will these be okay? I've read conflicting instructions that I need V60 cards to shoot the 400 Mbps, is this true? Do you have V60 cards and if so, which ones work best?
2. H.264 versus H.265? Also a bit confused about the HEVC/H.265? I edit in FCP X and Resolve. In FCP X, everything incoming is transcoded to Prores or Prores HQ, depending on the project. It seems many are trying to actually edit H.265
which most people say brings most computers to their knees. I have a new but still 2017 iMac with the 4.2Ghz Intern Core i7, Radeon 580 GPU and I have the RAM maxed at 64GB. With this computer, should I not bother with H.265 or transcode
H.265 to Prores as I edit in FCP X or ?
3. F-Log - Do I need to download and import the Fujifilm F-Log LUT to FCO 10.4.4 or is it already there? Do you even use the LUT? Also, is it the Eterna LUT or just a general REC709 LUT or do you use both?

Any other out of box caveats on settings or other gotchas I should check out? It arrives tomorrow.

Thanks for any advice oh wise and sage Fuji X-T3 current owners.

I just recorded 2 minutes of DCI 4k H265 400mb/s with a 128gb SanDisk Extreme Pro 95mb/s SDXC V30 to test and it was fine. Not sure if it introduces problems in longer recordings but seems good to me. (Thanks for asking this, I can use these as backups now!)

I've been using 64gb 300mb/s SanDisk Extreme Pro SD XC II cards and have had no problems with those, either.

H265 has 10 bit 4:2:0 internal, H264 only 8, if that matters to you.

Aside from that, I'd test the performance of both within FCP because I think the NLE, in addition to your computer, influences how playable the footage is. (Resolve chokes on my Hack playing 265, but just playing the files from the desktop is fine so maybe you'll have better luck with FCP.)

Do you even use the LUT? Also, is it the Eterna LUT or just a general REC709 LUT or do you use both?

I use the Rec2020-> 709 LUT every time I'm working with Flog. (Assuming 709 delivery.) Haven't used the Eterna because I prefer to grade my own stuff but I think people like it.

Enjoy!
