Fuji X-T3 released

Hey all. I'm trying to decide if a Sony A7iii or the Fuji XT3 would better suite my needs. I plan on using it for video on a gimbal often, so I got a little bit concerned about the auto iso as discussed about 3 minutes into this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nia9zAytHtQ

But then reading that video's comments led to this:

"i think the auto iso issue is fixed via firmware update on the X-H1 and also does not appear on the X-T3 unless you have a specific setting that i can't recall right now.I saw another video somewhere that auto iso stepping occured on a specific setting and if you changed it the video was really smooth. Maybe ,if you play with the settings you can fix it?Otherwise, it's a shame that it's still there"

Can anyone who has the Fuji XT3 comment on the smoothness of the auto iso in run and gun situations where there is no control over the lighting and one might choose auto vs a set exposure? I guess a variable ND could mitigate but would be nice to know if the camera's auto iso is useable or not.

Couldn't find any references to adjusting the stepping for auto iso in the manual. Couldn't manage to reproduce the strobing effect from the YT video. Stepping is definitely visible, but not that harsh. (Although I wasn't using as powerful a light.)

Anyone else using Resolve 15 w/ H265 files from this cam? I have no problems playing back from the desktop using QT Player, but they stutter mightily in Resolve and I have to convert to Proxy in order to work with them. Is that a known issue with Resolve or is something not playing nice with my GPU?

From what I have heard, H.265 really cannot be played in RT on most devices and computers today. I think optimization is not yet in place for that codec, it's pretty new compared to H.264.

This was my assumption as well, but much to my surprise I'm playing the files RT with QT Player with absolutely no problem, so I'm wondering why that behavior doesn't extend to DaVinci. Could be:

1. Resolve struggles with H265, generally
2. Resolve struggles with H265 from the XT-3
3. I have something improperly configured in Resolve

If it's 1 or 2 I'll file a bug/feature request with DaVinci, but want to rule out user error first.

Sorry man, wish I knew but I have only shot a couple of test clips with H.265 so far and same result, chokes in all of the editing programs I use. So I don't shoot H.265

In case anybody's interested, I added the XT3 to my rolling-shutter measurements table here. It's not spectacularly great, but also not bad at all!

Thanks, very interesting results. Cinema5D shows 9ms for 4K 25P, that's a huge discrepancy with your 20ms result.

It's not the first time they give a result that is completely different than what I measured. Maybe I got something wrong, it's always a possibility, but in my defense, the BlackMagic official numbers came out really close to what I had measured...

Also wouldn’t be the first time Cinema5D screwed something up either. I lost all respect for them with their botched GH5 10bit article. Their testing practices are a little questionable and not professional at all. They tend to just make up practices that suit their articles and spew the results as some sort of expert fact.

Just got back from Samy's. Pulled the trigger on the X-T3 because the P4K is nowhere in site lol. I need to research as to what lenses to get for this beauty.

16mm F1.4 is a killer
The "kit" lens 18-55 F2.8-4.0 OIS seems to be pretty good.
The new 200mm F2.0 looks amazing and comes with a 1.4 teleconvertor but it is $6k
I'm going to probably pick up the 10-24 F4 OIS for gimbal

I'll be buying an EF to X Mount adaptor so I can use my Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II with it.

Like with every camera, depends on what you are shooting and how you want to shoot it.

Cool.
Now what is missing is just a decent side by side between X-T3, GH5s (both internal external) and P4k

While I have not shot the X-T3 and the GH5S side by side, I had the GH5S for a month when it came out. It's a very nice camera with great features and picture but the Fuji color science is a lot better and I would definitely prefer an APS-C sensor over an M43. Plus the Fuji is a lot cheaper.
