Fuji X-T3 released

There are many LUTs available that are similar...knock up the contrast and tweak the color a bit and you’re half way there with any companies’ emulations. There’s also a difference between burning one in and just monitoring.

Picked one of these up today. My initial impression is the thing is very small! The body is only slightly larger than my X100s, which I frequently drop in my jacket pocket when I want a camera but don't want to carry a bag. Unfortunately unlike the X100S the grip on the front face of the XT-3 forces my right hand into a slightly unnatural position (gripping the camera with just the distal joint instead of all 3). Fortunately I play the drums and am used to holding the sticks like this, but if I wasn't I'm not sure I would feel comfortable holding the camera one handed, which I do a lot. Worth investigating if you have larger hands.

Will start testing once I can line up some free time / models!

The old no-internal-FLog limitation doesn't apply to the XT3

Good to know.

How do people find it when only recording 4:2:0 colour though? I'd have thought you'd want to at least boost your saturation considerably during FLOG internal recording, to capture some chroma information there.

The one thing I'm not liking about some of the footage, is what looks like digital sharpening artifacts. Can you dial the sharpness WAY down in camera?

You can, and I do.

I also try to use more vintage lenses, ie Zeiss Contax, which takes the edge off of the newer sensors.

I'll be testing the 4:2:0 vs 4:2:2 and playing with sharpness reduction once the Atomos Ninja V is out as I'm curious about those things as well. If the XT-3 can address my issues with the competing lines (sharpness, color, AF), and at a fraction of the price, I will be a very happy camper!

Do anyone know if there is information on the settings behind the memento piece. This short looks very nice image and motion wise and has one of the most organic and cinematic quality out of all current dslr's. I even like its look better then the c200s/300s. I think Fuji has something very special on their hands, at least for indi filmmakers .

Someone asked for more info recently and the cinematographer has been good about responding so perhaps more forthcoming, but on the comment chain on the trailer they said: "Thanks! Recorded external in ProRes HQ using the Atomos Shogun. No reduction in sharpening." and separately that they used the Fuji Cine 18-55.

Does the Fuji iPhone app allow touch-to-focus in video mode like it does in photo mode? I've watched some youtube videos but haven't seen it specifically mentioned.

Also is there much lag in the app's display of live video?

Thanks!

The touch-to-focus square disappears when you go into video mode on the app.

The lag is about 500ms, the feed stutters every 5-10s, and the resolution is low. Not really useful for anything other than checking the framing of a shot in a location where you can't see the LCD/VF and/or triggering a recording, imo. (Caveat that I have an old phone, iPhone 6 Plus, so maybe it's better on a newer device)

Some more footage, inc. the soon to be released 8-16
