Fuji X-T3 released

After seeing that short, why is everyone so hyped up about FF? S35 works quite nicely, this furthers my theory that FF is mainly a marketing move to sell new cameras and glass and that few need FF.

Very impressive work, he is a super talented guy and has been for a long time. It would be interesting to talk to him and the ACs to find out if working with the form factor was a nightmare or merely "different" than working with a digital cinema camera for factor. I agree, Fuji is just nailing the color science, I think I like it even better than Canon's color science, which is generally my favorite. Would love to know the budget. Looking forward to seeing what you shoot with it Matt.

This is America, bigger is always better, has been and will be ;-)

BTS

I just watched the bys and loved it. Now after looking at it I would have to say my only real gripe with the film would be the over crushing of the blacks in some parts. The bts footage did not have the same crushed blacks look. But the camera on its own did its job well.

XT-2 vs XT-3 video differences.

This camera, by any camera person's measure has remarkable value. If you are still wavering watch the above review. The reviewer gets into glorious detail. You sure get the feeling the engineers who worked on this camera took a ton of advice from experienced shooters in the field. They hardly miss a trick in drawing out the possible features that could be brought out to make an experienced camera person happy. Oh and the menus make sense unlike another manufacturer we all know.

My only issue is the lack of a hotshoe that would allow an attachment that gives phantom powered XLRs. However, you can use a wireless receiver on the cam and go with a phantom powered Buttplug on a boom or a transmitter pack on the talent.

Looks like the mic input is a stereo mini jack. Not said explicitly in the review but inferred.

I am becoming more and more convinced that I should get one of these cameras, it is a bar raising camera IMHO.
The XH-1 almost was but the specs were just not very impressive.
I'm thinking as a low key documentary, b-roll on a gimbal camera, there is nothing in this camera's league.
I could probably just get away with one or two lenses too.

I'm not wavering at all, just have to set aside enough money for one with the 10-24 (gimbal lens), 18-55 (walk around) and 100-400 (sports lens)? About $4,500.00 total plus need $700.00 or $800.00 for a new gimbal. Tempted to stick with Canon since I am deep in Canon glass, but the EOS R isn't even in the same league as the XT-3 and not nearly the value.

Do it Dan.

Get a lens adapter and use that EF glass too:

Thanks. Gotta save my money, I'll just have to live vicariously through you Matt for the time being! ;-) Maybe by the time I save enough, we'll have an XH-2?

Matt, doing a bit more research on lenses and apparently the longer Fujifilm lenses and or the focusing systems in the Fujifilm bodies apparently aren't good for action or sports type coverage where fast focus and shooting is needed. I've shot a ton of fast long lens action stills as BTS for our racing documentary and it appears that I will have to keep my 80D, 70-200 2.8 IS II and 100-400 F4.5-5.6 IS II for the occasional surfing, racing, windsailing, car racing shoots? It would be great when you have time to run some tests or just observations on focus and images acquisition on your XT-3 and whatever long Fujinon glass you have or end up buying. No big deal, but the only reason I would buy long Fuji glass is for action/sports type stuff or some nature stuff, both of which require speed. If the Fujifilm system is lousy for shooting sports/action, I would just get the 10-24 for gimbal and the 18-55 2.8 for shooting BTS, interviews and documentary type coverage.

Also, are you going to shoot much sync audio with your XT-3? If so, what are you going to use for mics or are you going to go with double system sound?

The XT3 and the p4k both are great improvements over anything we had available for <$5k until now. Great to see some manufacturers pushing as hard as they can.

We are the beneficiaries of a feature war to gain market share. Fuji wants a good piece of the market that the Sony A7s and GH5s have enjoyed and it appears that they will gain a good chunk of that market share. I am interested in it mainly because of it's amazing color science and the fact that it is currently the best mirrorless on the market, one of the least expensive and it's S35 and NOT full frame. I hate full frame.

Hey brother.

The 50-140 Fuji is amazing. Fuji has very customizable focusing features, and you can seriously get down to wether an object is crossing side to side or is approaching you front to back.

For audio I have a balanced xlr to mini cable that works great. I have the first "my menu" setting to adjust the volume.

Most times I am shooting b-roll with the camera mic though.

Thanks Matt!

I think by the time I have funds in hand, it will either be the XT-3 or the XH-2, depending on Fujifilm's delivery schedule for new models. Enjoy your XT-3 and post when you have some cool footage from it. Oh, forgot to ask, are you using a gimbal with it? If so, which one?
