Fuji X-T3 released

I installed it and tested it. Doesn't appear to fix it.... I called and spoke to Fuji support for about twenty minutes and they said they have been getting other complaints about the issue. In fact, someone had just sent a video documenting the issue while I as on the phone. The CS rep said she is going to send an inquiry up the ladder and hopefully it should be resolved shortly (she said possibly a few days, but I doubt a fw update could be done that quickly)...

They are just normal people with day jobs who follow protocol.

We don't get to speak with anyone important when calling-in.

I heard the auto focus update is incoming.

Interesting release of the Fuji X-A7, no Eterna or log but it looks like they are heading in the right direction.

1000 nit screen

"about 8.5 times more phase detection pixels than the current model*** across the entire sensor surface to enhance AF speed and accuracy. This not only enhances AF tracking of a moving subject and Face / Eye detecting AF performance, but also allows users to attain fast and accurate autofocus even in low light."

I'm sitting here everyday hoping this gets fixed and it just works perfectly, but it's important to understand if those notes (like above) are referring to stills or video use. Obviously both would be ideal.

I have a feeling 2020's X-H2 will be really good.

I have a feeling it won't be perfect, probably just back to normal like it is on the XT30. I used the original XT3 firmware for a dancing rehearsal the other day in low light. It did miss focus here and there but overall it worked really well.

Kind of thinking the XH2 will hit the nail on the head(hopefully catch up to Sony's latest tech). I was about ready to get an EOS R but I think I'll just hold out. Fuji is really good overall.

It doesn't have to be perfect, just usable. I've had some luck with AF-C on a few shoots recently, but I just got nailed really hard on it shooting yesterday. Breathing/hunting all over the place. I'm done with the AF on the Fuji until they fix this...

Are you using the latest firmware or the original?

Could you please explain what is happening with the auto focus issue?

The speed was never the problem; it's the adjustments.

Give it a "patience test"...sit in front of the camera for a while with face-tracking on, and when reviewing the footage look at the background (preferably bokeh or lights growing and shrinking).

The camera has lost its tolerance to make a decision and stick with it.

What NorBro said. It won't lock AF, it micro hunts all over the place, all of the time, regardless of sensitivity and speed settings. No way to mitigate it other than to turn it off. They'll fix it. Remember, Fuji is a still oriented company that really is just learning about video. This bug doesn't affect still shooting, in still, it locks, you snap your still and it will be in focus. It's only sucking for us video people as the camera seems to never just lock, it's "overthinking" the focusing basically. They'll get it right, hopefully in the next update. If you get a Fuji and it has the older 2X firmware, XT-3, DON'T update it to 3.0 because you cannot reverse the FW updates.

Yes, this. I kind of screwed myself on a shoot the other day because I got lucky on a few shoots with the AF. Not this time. Hopefully I can salvage something...

Major firmware updates (and a few other things) to be announced/demoed at Fujifilm X Summit in Shibuya, Tokyo on the 20th September.
