FS700 480fps and 960fps resolution/ sensor size

I'm trying to find out the exact resolution the FS700 records at for 480fps and 960fps. Everywhere just says "reduced resolution."

It appears that the higher frame rates crop the sensor but to what size? I need to chose lenses for a shoot. TIA!

It's NOT "crop the sensor" .. it's just reduce VERTICAL resolution by skipping the lines! :)

Understand that the recorded resolution will be 1080p. It always records at 1080.

As for discernible detail, that's a much different question. By my reading of the charts Adam posted, I'd say it's somewhere around 500 lines for 120/240 fps, about 280 lines for 480 fps, and maybe 200 lines for 960 fps.

That low resolution sampling will then be stretched up to 1920x1080 and recorded as 1920x1080.

Don't worry about choosing lenses, there is no change, all of the modes show the same field of view.

Thank you guys for the quick responses and for the info. Exactly what I was looking for.

I haven't been around this forum for a while but I remember you, Barry, from years ago. Glad to see you're still kicking a$$.

Thanks again.

Are you sure about the all modes show the same FOV? I thought the 960 was cropped... I'm too lazy to get up to verify... hehe

No cropping whatsoever- exactly same FOV.

My resolution estimates (at extinction of detail vs. first artifacts) are scaled into a 1920x1080 container. The result is a soft image. Same thing as blowing up 720p to 1080p: 720 resolution as soft/blurry 1080.

Nope, 960 definitely crops, changing the field of view. It says so in the manual: "When selecting [960] ([800]) on [FRAME RATE], the image to be displayed and recorded is approximately half the field angle." (Pg.53)
you can see the field of video change in this video I shot as well (the lens and camera position were the same): http://vimeo.com/50168350

Yeah, thanks for the correction for 960 (never shot that after seeing results online). Makes sense they'd need to 1/4 sensor crop to get another 2x performance out of it.

Blast from the past...;)
So going by those numbers, the 480fps and 960fps should make a soft 1080 image but still a pretty good 720p deliverable, no?
