Good morning all...your friendly neighborhood MikeA writing you from the set of my first FS100->Premiere shoot and I've encountered something I've never seen. This isnt a necessarily pressing issue, I'm just curious about what I'm seeing.

When I mount the FS and import the CONTENTS folder, I get all my media just fine...including what seems like duplicates of some of the audio. For kicks, I dragged all of the files into a timeline and ended up with my actual footage & its audio, and also 3 or 4 copies of that footage's audio.

So lets assume I shot 3 takes of SCENE 1F, and imported the files the way I described. After dragging them into a timeline, I end up with SCENE 1F T1 video&audio, SCENE 1F T2 video&audio, SCENE 1F T3 video&audio....and then T1 audio (duplicated three times), T2 audio (x3), T3 audio (x3).

The footage I shot looks and works just fine, I'm just wondering why those extra duplicates are created/what they actually are/any other info you guys & gals may have on the topic.

Any feedback is much appreciated...
Thanks!
MikeA

the HVX 200 records 4 channels of audio at all times. channels 1 + 2 can be switched to the onboard mic from the L + R channels, or used for external input from the 2 xlr inputs when switched to use inputs 1 or 2. the 3rd and 4th channels of audio are ALWAYS from the onboard mic . so if your recording using the onboard mic, your channels 1 and 2 are going to be from the L + R of the onboard mic, and the channels 3 + 4 are going to be the same thing. PPRO imports each channel as its own mono track, (which is exactly what you want if your shooting from external XLR mics on channel 1+2 seperate from different lavs or shotguns or whatever .. you dont want your lav mixed with your shotgun as a stereo pair .. you want seperate tracks for mixing from each mic without the hassle of having to separate them in post ..) then your stereo onboard mic on channels 3+4 is separated into L + R mono channels as tracks 3 + 4. so each track is actually different when your using the XLR inputs on the cam for two mics as channel 1+2 , and when you are recording using the onboard mic. then tracks 1+3 are the same, and 2+4 are the same.

You can just turn off tracks 3+4 entirely on the timeline if you dont want the internal mic recordings ..or secondary copies of your tracks 1+2 if you only used the internal mic (I almost always do this unless im just testing something out and using the onboard mic.) .. or you can just convert channels 3+4 to a stereo pair ..or easier is to use a simple submix track to send your internal mic tracks to before sending to the master output in order to easily effect them at the same time without having to effect the L+R channel seperately.

Tip : If you do not want to deal with all the (4) tracks in Premiere timeline everytime you insert or overlay a clip. Remap the audio.

Select the Video clips in the Project WIndow and use the Audio Option from Project / Clips menu to remap them.

absolutely, remapping works wonders to deal with how you want to sort your tracks up front. unfortunately you cannot remap the audio from P2 .MXF files outside of the P2 preset type projects yet. it would be nice to have it in an update soon

in his case hw would switch it to stereo, and disable channels 3+4 if he was using the internal mic. that way he will just getone linked stereo pair from the internal instead of 4 mono channels
