FS-100, HVX200, FCP Studio & missing frames

Hi all,

I just used the FS-100 for the first time yesterday and I'm running into a problem. I recorded in 720 24P on the HVX200 and afetr importing the footage into the FCP project, I noticed that the clips that ran long were each cut into 2:18:02 in length. I learned from recent research that this is due to the 2 gig limitation, which is fine. When I put the clips back to back on the timeline, however, there's at least 1 frame missing. In fact, the timecode at the end of these clips and the beginning of the next is missing frames. What gives? Any answers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

What...? Is this true? Can anyone confirm this?

I am about to purchase the FS-100. Is that the problem or is it a an HVX issue? Does this mean that one can't record longer takes than 2:18.02 in lenght?

How could that possibly be an HVX issue?

I don't know whether it's true or not, but if it's true it would either be an FS-100 issue, or an FCP issue.

If there's any way to import that footage into a different editor (like Avid or something), that would help narrow down whether it's the FS-100 responsible, or FCP itself.

Or, hopefully, someone else with an FS-100 will write in as to whether they're encountering the same issue and if they've found a way around it.

On a side note, if the FS-100 breaks the recording up into 2GB chunks, that's not a limit imposed by the FAT32 file system -- FAT32 limits individual files to 4GB in size.

You'll need to update the Firestore with the latest firmware to solve the missing frame problem.

Also, make sure you're working with version 5.1.1 of FCP.

The point about long clips being broken into shorter clips just over two minutes long is due to the way the Firestore writes and stores its files. I don't know the technical details but I think it's been addressed elsewhere in these forums.

I use an FS-100 all the time with my HVX200 and FCP 5.1.1. Great set up. If you are just now ordering an FS-100 it'll have the latest firmware installed, so you won't have to do the updates. Make sure to clarify this when you order it from Focus. I do not have any missing frames when I import a bunch of long takes. Since the last firmware upgrade, the FS-100 runs great.

Hi,

There was an issue that has been fixed recently where under certain circumstances, the wrong frames were flagged and hence, some frames were missing when imported into Final Cut. A software patch is now available for download at http://www.focusinfo.com/support/downloads.asp under software downloads. It replaces the previous 2.0 version now online. Once installed, please do a System Reset just to be on the safe side.

This announcement was sent out to all registered users on Monday. Sorry it has taken me a while to get the forums.

Hope that helps,

Matt
