FS-100 dubbing question

I shot some dvcpro hd footage and wanted to dub a backup copy to my hvx (on miniDv). I know you can do this with the P2 cards and was told you could do it with the firestore; however, can't seem to figure it out.

Any suggestions?

Does anybody know if that is a hardware or software limitation? I would think that if the Firestore organizes footage in P2 format so that you can view it on the HVX, you would be able to record a down-converted version.

You technically can, but only when the FS-100 is in DV25 mode, playing DV25 footage. You can't do DVCPRO-HD to tape via the FS-100, as Barry said. The FS-100 can play back clips to the camera cause it's sending a video feed that the camera recognizes. The camera is not playing back MXF files on it's own. You have to hit the play button on the FS-100 to start the playback, the HVX-200 has no idea the FS-100 has any MXF files on it. It only sends a stream out, recieves a stream in, that's it. It never actually sees the MXF data on the FS-100.

You CAN however capture the playback of DVCPRO-HD footage directly from the FS-100 into FCP (or other NLEs) by using the DV FW port instead of the Computer FW port on the FS-100. Nice feature in case of emergencies, like corrupted files that play on the HVX, but are bad when copied to the NLE drive.

That was an FCP bug; if the clips play on the HVX they're not corrupted. FCP couldn't import a repaired clip but now apparently 5.1.2 fixed that. I ran into that a couple of times; FCP refused to import the clip, but P2 Log and EDIUS and Raylight all could. AFAIK 5.1.2 fixed it so now FCP can import those too.
