FS-100 Doesn't work with PAL HVX

I finally managed to get a firestore for testing and can confirm that is doesn't work with the PAL HVX-200.

I've done an extensive set of tests and thought everything was fine until I tested continuous sound recording.

The FS-100 with v2 firmwire will not record continuous sound and introduces a "skip' between clips.

I test this by recording a 3.5 minute music track and joined the files up in FCP and at the join the track jumps ahead.

I was shooting 720p 25p @ 25fps to the Firestore FS-100

This is a major bummer especially since Focus rattled on how the FS-100 is working with the PAL HVX for sure :-(

Vari frames don't work at this time as there in no way to convert the footage as the Variable Frame Rate Converter plug-in only works with 60i at this stage.

Hopefully Focus will fix this some day.

Many thanks
Rory

Hi Rory,

Sorry to hear things are not going smoothly.

As you know 720p25 & 720p50 are not yet supported by Apple in FCP and the various workarounds have their problems (the P2 Log PAL workflow is just a hack really) so if you are heading into a big project which starts before FCP 5.1.2 comes out, I would go with 1080. No vari speed recording, but it is fully supported by FCP. I know others have had some success with Cinema Tools for varispeed clips, so you might try that.

Ultimately FCP 5.1.2 and FS-100 v3.0 is when it will become much more useful for 720p25/50 - about a month or so away.

Also I don't think the latest firmware is on that FS-100. Here are the details of the very latest firmware that is out:

version 2.0.0.04080806:
- Various disk performance improvements
- Improvements for 24P support
- Improved compatibility with Final Cut Pro as an AVC device.
- Handle audio recorded at end of clip properly
- Changed the behavior of the organize p2 progress bar. Now it is similar to the OS upgrade progress bar.

Notice "handle audio recorded at end of clip properly". This may be worth a go. I'll email you the firmware, but be very careful to follow the update instructions to the point; the last bit where you have to reset the unit is crucial and then check that the right firmware version is loaded.

Check what is on there first, its probably version 2.0.0.04061606.
