Fs-100 Battery Not sitting Correctly Issue

HEy All,

Just got my fs-100 yesterday and been playing with it (fyi, studio-exchange.com, $1795 in stock shipping version 3.0, phone order support topnoch, they are a dealer too).

When the fs-100 is plugged into the ac adapter, everything is working great. When Iplug the battery in, it needs to be exactlyseating just right. If the battery gets moved 1/64 of an inch forward (toturn it on, I need to put 3 slices of newspaper between the case and battery to increase the gap for the contacts totouch), the unit turns off (like it is losing power). With the newspaper in, if I nock the battery while gripping it, is sometimes turns off.

I am wondering if this is a design flaw most have seen and have not talked about on the forum. I figure when I get the cradle that the casing around the battery will not allow me to move the battery, stopping the turn off. IT is a very small space but just enough where without the newspaper, setting it on the table nocks the battery turning it off.

Iam going to give FE a call here soon but wanted to see if anyone had this problem and if there is a simple solution besides sending it back (i reallyneed it next weekend). Wondering if this is something new that willbe popping up on the latest versions (mine has the 3.0 upgrade already installed).

Thanks!

Anyone having this problem? It seems now more obvious that it is not the placement of the battery but the fact that the slightest movement or jolt (even sometimes placing it onthe table) turns off the unit. Everything is fine when plugged into the wall outlet.

I am kind of freaking out since this is the first of this issue I have heard and now I am forced to either try another unit after exchanging this one, or move into the P2 workflow, and was hoping I would be able use it next weekend.

Please anyone?

This should not be happening. I have the standard FS-100 battery and also the extended life battery. Both fit tightly and are very secure. I would verify with your reseller where the problem is. Either your FS-100 has an issue or your battery does. Its a new unit, returning it should be a no-brainer.

My biggest worry is that if I exchange the unit, are all their units like this, since these are the first firmware 3.0 direct from FE, is this something that has happened on the production line.

I am really inclined to exchange it for a 8gb p2 and use the difference to buy a laptop (I have the free p2 card on the way from pany) and use the laptop todump footage on. This situation has kind of put a bad taste in my mouth of the fs-100 and worries me, thats all.

Firmware is like software. The issue you are having is hardware related. I have the FS-100. I bought it with v. 3.0. So I would have the same production run as you. Mine is fine.

thanks for helping out. My biggest gripe is that I can get a laptop plus a 8gb p2 card for less than the price of the fs-100, with the other p2 card on the way. I do a lot of camera work that requires me to be in tight spaces, so I may try and exchange this unit for the p2 card. After hearing so many of the horrow stories of people in front of clients and the unit failing makes me a little worried. I figure I can stick with the p2 cards till the summer then possibly get the cineporter when it comes out with raid, so I wont have to worry about losing anything. It sounds like specs is really into their products for the time they have spent designing it, where the fs-100 seems like a "lets make it for the hvx" kind of thing, not really designed specificially for the hvx, like the cineporter.

Thanks for the help!
