I've about had it. It's a common known fact that there are Gamma issues with FCP and Apple (1.8/2.2) and the WYSIWYG is NOT what happens (my understanding is FCP does a gamma trick to try to emulate what the image should appear). I've color corrected using a properly calibrated Matrox MXO with my 2nd 23" ACD and am happy. However, once encoded for DVD (Compressor) everything is off. I've taken the proper steps (and I've tried everything) and added Gamma Correction of .82 in Compressor (which actually adjusted true black to dark, dark grey); I've also added Gamma Correction in FCP to each clip properly (all filters, then GC, then Broadcast Safe). My compressions are close, but not how they appear in FCP. I know not expect the exact quality due to compression, etc. but I just wish there didn't have to be any playing around or guessing with encodes to try to get back to the way FCP is displaying the image.
Sorry to vent, but I'm sure others out there have experimented as well and I'd love to hear their results. Well, back to the computer to see how the latest compression looks...
