I have been shooting in 24p with dvx100b camera-
The image quality is good - or decent .- and great when there is good lighthig
I brought the footage in with Capture setting DV NTSC 48KHZ advance (2:3:3:2) Pulldown removal
After putting together the fooage in the time line -
The sequence preset is at : DV NTSC 48 KHZ - 24
After 8 hrs of rendering ( File Export quicktime Movie) The output when I bring it into DVD studio pro 4 ( After it renders it ) looks pixilated -

Basically the quality deteriates - substantially from the original ..

I was told thet I should use a compresseor when I export the footage (but my compressor is not working. ( get error cannot submit Batch - unable to connect to Background Process I re-instaled the compressor did not help )

Can someone suggest - or tell me what I may be doing wrong?
Or Can anyone help with the Compressor issue?
Unltimately, does the Compressor does a better job of retaining the quality?

Any advice or help is appreciate it ..

Michelle

if you are shooting in regular 24p mode you should just use the DV NTSC easy set up not the pulldown removal.

24p footage should be captured and edited in 29.97 while 24pa footage would use your current settings

Hello

Oh my God .. Hours/days of work wasted ..
Yes I've shoot in regular 24p ..
I'm confused there are two answers here -

One says I need to capture footage in 29.97
One says DV NTSC?

Can somone calrify please?

Is there no way to recover from the mistake without recapture the whole footage?

Is there no way to

If what you are saying

The easy setup for "DV NTSC" IS at 29.97 fps, and that's what you want for 24P normal footage.

And you're better off doing a recapture.

I had a similar problem a while ago...someone told me something like...
make a new sequence (or just use one if it's there)

right click/click option + mouse (whatever you do to make a new menu come up example: on your desktop, pressing ctrl+mouse = brings up menu to make new folders etc.... - do that with the sequence...make sure the sequence has a clip or two in it and not just blank.

Then, there should be an option there that allows you to make the timeline fit the sequence, and all will be well. (there isn't much options there...it's one that sounds something like "create sequence timeline" (but it isn't worded like that))

...sorry about the unspecifics of this, as I'm not on my computer with FCP nor am I on a mac, which is what I usually use..so I can't do it and see what I'm talking about for sure. I just remember it helped me, so try something like that....I figure I may aswell try and help :)

is there a way to find what your capture setting was for a footage?

is there a way to find what your capture setting was for a footage?

Thanks -- I think I will re-capture the entire thing to be on the safe side

Another silly question .. Is there anyway in FCP you can tell what your footage was captured in? This is really helpful f anyone can help with this woul dbe of a great help?

2nd - Question - Are there any settings when you render the footage in the
time line

3rd - And finally - I'm using DVD studio pro 4 -
What is the best way to export the footgae into to DVD studio 4?
Please keep in mind I cannot get my compresion 2.0 to work.

Thank you all

I can answer your first question... if you right click on a clip in the browser -> Item Properties --> Format. It will bring up a window showing you everything about the clip.

Actually I can do the second as well... when you just use the easy setup it will take care of those settings for you.

And I guess I can do the third also. If you just File->Export->Quicktime Movie with current settings then bring that into DVDSP then it will do the compression through DVDSP when you build and burn.
