Frustraion

OK I put a post up here about this topic and got responses which I really appreciate but Im still at a loss. I own a AG-DVX100 PAL and im trying to achieve a light trail effect while shooting traffic at night. I know its been over done etc but i just want to try and do it, it seems like a simple enough thing to do, i was thinking just turn the shutter speed down like you would with a camera. Ive spoken to my friend who owns a PD-150 and he just said to do that, he says his camera goes down to about 1/4 or 1/8 and he says that gives him a nice result but mine only seems to go down to 1/25. I know the effect im looking for is possible with my camera because a guy that filmed a gig for me achieved it with his DVX100 NTSC, problem is i cant get a hold of him to ask him how he did it. Im guessing he perhaps did it a different way, can anyone enlighten me as to what sort of setting i need to have on my camera please? Any advice would be greatly recieved! cheers, Rick.
