I've followed the youtube stars for sometime because it's been an interesting change in media. It used to be someone had to "discover" you. Now, you can discover yourself on youtube. Don't get me wrong. Your chances of success on youtube are slim to none. At any given moment there's like a top 10 people on youtube that might break into TV, but that's out of literally MILLIONS of people posting videos. So your chance of breaking out on youtube is probably about the same as going to Hollywood and going to auditions.
The latest star to break out that I've noticed is Michelle Phan. She started with make up videos and turned that into a very lucrative youtube business, I've heard estimates of close to 200k a year made on her videos.
Now she's doing a Dr. Pepper commercial.
Before that it was Jenna Marbles. Jenna does a video blog and got hired by Disney.
