From letterbox to the right editing aspect ratio

Hi! I'm a newby, but here is my problem:
I was so stupid to record a whole project in letterbox mode. And now I have to edit this, but I can see that my edit possibilities have shrinked because those bars are always there

But I have another problem. I already tried some modes but I cannot find the right aspect ratio to import the raw material in my editing software (Magix Pro X2) without being stretched in a horizontal way. I tried 4:3/ (thought that would be right), 16:9 amd othe non PAL formats, but the image still is too wide.
When I right-click on the materials properties I see: 720x576 (25 Fps). The project in Pro X2 has the same sttings. (what I don't understand is that 16:9 also shows 720x576; shouldn't that be different?).

What to do to get this right? H E L P!

I don't fully understand what you are saying.

Are you using Final Cuts log and capture?

I don't know for sure, I haven't used a DVX100 in a long time but you can probably capture in 720x480 and itll just give ou the black bars.

You can always scale it up until the bars go away but you'll be losing the left and right parts of the frame.
