I have never done it - but since no one else has answered yet I'll give it a shot.
The footage from an I-movie project lives in a 'packaged file'. Right click the I-movie file and choose 'show package contents'.
In the contents folder you will find your footage. Drag that footage into your capture scratch folder on your capture scratch drive. Then create a new project and import the footage into that project.
