From FCP --> SONY VEGAS

Simple Question:

Sony Vegas is on a PC - it works best with .avi files.

So which setting on FINAL CUT PRO or COMPRESSOR shall I use to export what I have to the highest quality .avi (to be burnt on a DVD later)

Unlike FCP, Vegas will handle just about anything you can throw at it. Generally, if you can play it on the PC, you can edit it in Vegas.

That being said, if you want to maintain the highest video quality, you'll want to export from FCP in a DV-AVI format. If your project is of any decent length, you can expect the file to be ginormous, but it'll reduce the probability of any compression artifacts once you export to MPEG2 (DVD).

If storage space is a concern, try exporting to MPEG4 using the highest bitrate you can. Windows can't play MP4's natively, but Vegas (starting with ver. 6.0c, I think) can edit them without any problem.
