From FCP HD back to 4.1--FIXED

All of the issues below went away when I followed Jerry Hoffman's advice in this post on the Apple Discussion board:

It really does work, and it's worth the annoyance of reinstalling Panther and running all those updates. Now HD works like a champ--display's back, you name it. If only I'd known about this fix on Sunday... :-/

***************
I've had it with HD--I want to downgrade back to 4.1.  Trouble is, 4.5 files can't be read by 4.1.  I blew the deadline on this weekend's 48 Hour Competition because when I was ready to print to tape, I couldn't (among many, many other problems I'd never seen before).

So here's my question:

I have one project only that was done in 4.5, which is my 48 Hour movie.  I want to be able to recut it in 4.1, so I can send it off to other festivals.  If I re-upgrade to 4.5, export XML and Batch Lists, and then downgrade again to 4.1, will I be able to reconstruct my 4.5 timeline in 4.1?

Just for giggles, here's a small sample of my nightmarish weekend:

** I'm having issues rendering to quicktime (the movies don't render the full timeline, whether I clear all in-out points OR create in-out points spanning the full timelline);

**My NTSC monitor no longer displays my video.  I re-installed 4.1 this morning, and then I got my NTSC display back.  It's not the Radeon video card problem with HD--I have the NVdia, and besides, my NTSC display comes off of a firewire DV deck.

Not to mention cadence problems on import and lost links to files requiring repeated reconnection to the same media.

Someone please tell me there's a way out of HD upgrade hell.
