From a $750,000 indie to a 100 million dollar+ franchise in one leap!

In case you haven't heard, Colin Trevorrow, who has only made one film, the low grossing indie comedy Safety Not Guaranteed, has been pegged to direct Jurassic Park 4.

Sam Raimi and JJ Abrams must have been busy. Seems everything goes to them.

This is a huge gamble. A 750,000 comedy to a multi million dollar dino flick. I can see neill blomkamp directing district 9, because his small but proven films were sci-fi, but to cross genre lines on a first time at bat in the big leagues? Gamble.

Then again, a two year old could direct it and with enough publicity, a JP sequel will likely do just fine in the boxoffice

maybe its a comedy... I've heard that there was a script written for the studio... Jaws 4 People 0... so who knows maybe they had it rewritten JP4 People 0...

I like the idea of getting fresh talent to invigorate an established franchise. Hollywood is so risk averse it's good to see projects go out on a limb a bit. I do understand the risk aversion, after all they are putting millions of dollars on the line and with films like this the CGI bills are HUGE. There will probably be 20 or 40 different CGI companies working on it at the same time.

Well... there's "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls"(1970) to think about... but then Russ Meyer had been making films for a number of years before... just not major Hollywood films... and after BVD... returned, sort of... to the fare he was best at... grindhouse... in an era when grindhouse theaters were disappearing...

No doubt. But it won't be North American CGI companies. They all went bankrupt or sold to overseas sweat shops.
