from 16x9 to DvD using final cut

Maybe I should ask this question here instead of in the final cut pro section.

I've been doing some tests with the 16x9 anamorphic adapter.

My goal is to have my film shot in 16x9 and then transfered it to 35 mm

But meanwhile I want to have a copy of it in DVD so can use it for marketing and to show to producers and investers.

How can I go from 16x9 fottage to a DvD? Can anyone help?

Capture into FCP with AdvancePulldown removal if shot in 24pa. Set capture settings to anamorphic.
Place in 23.98 anamorphic sequence.
Export from FCP to Compressor. Set Compressor to 60 minutes high quality Widescreen (or other setting depending on length)
Burn with DVD Studio.

Thank you Scott.

Can I use Idvd instead of dvd studio pro?

Re: from 16x9 to DvD using final cut

IDVD doesn't support 24fps so you'd want to shoot 24p (not A) and edit in 29.97 timeline for video but then would need to do a reverse telecine to go to film. (Cinema Tools or film out house)

I'm not sure how much support (if any) iDVD has for anamorphic.
Best bet is to check hte online manual and shoot a few test scenes and check the process.

iDVD does not support anamorphic.

If you create a 4:3 sequence in FCP and set your clip to anamorphic in the browser before placing it on the timeline, it will automatically be letterboxed once dropped in the sequence.

However, you will need to render the timeline because the video will now be scaled.

Small sacrifice, but a quick way to burn 16x9 letterboxed in 4:3 for iDVD.

Hey Scott,
I noticed that in FCP you can chose either capture using advanced pulldown or anamorphic but no anamorphic + advanced pulldown.

Does it mean that you have to do the pulldown additionaly once the footage is captured??

Just little confused here from what you said.

Capture into FCP with AdvancePulldown removal if shot in 24pa.  Set capture settings to anamorphic.

Thanks,

Michal
