French Quarter Lamp Post

Hey now -
Lucky me. I'm going back to the French Quarter in New Orleans. I wanted to temporarily attach my own street sign to some old lamp posts for a few quick shots and was wondering if magnets were going to work? What's the pole made out of? Most are cast iron.

If not, what's suggested?

they might be cast iron but I think they have soooo many coats of paint ...

Perhaps somone could go out and see if a strong magnet works with most of them...nothing out of the way...just if you happen to be going to the Quarter and think about it...

Otherwise, I'm thinking of a big black spring clamp which makes the above moot
