Freezing a scene

Re: Freezing a scene

I have always just replaced the 'area' with an image (splitting and inserting image in place). Kind of 'filling the gap'.

Re: Freezing a scene

Let me know if works for you! I'm still curious of the other various methods the veterans use. Gary? David? Barry? Spotted Eagle?

Re: Freezing a scene

It depend on what precisely you're trying to do. If you want to gradually slow into a stop, then I'd use the velocity envelope. If you just want a still image, I'd use a screen grab.

Re: Freezing a scene

Yeah, I'm wanting it to slow and then stop while the narration continues, and at the end of the dialogue the video picks back up, but in another scene altogether.

Much appreciated! I had not even thought of the velocity envelope. Without Vegas, I would be a lost chicken in high weeds. Course, sometimes while using it too.

Re: Freezing a scene

I know it's said often, but that's the beauty of Vegas. There are usually several ways to accomplish something.

Re: Freezing a scene

I would:
Use velocity to slow it down, then split
Park cursor where you want it to freeze, put Preview to Best/full, grab a snapshot.
Then grab the snapshot from the mediapool and drop at freezepoint.

You could also make a subclip of just that section, apply velocity, then turn off looping and drag the subclip out.
