Freeze Frame

You can export that frame as a tiff and then import back into your timeline and strech it out to whatever the length you need that frame to be. Whats an add on effect?

Not tiff, but .png.

What they mean is.....at least heres the easiest way. Just load the clip onto your time line. Scrub your play head (the line that shows which portion is playing) so that the frame you want to freeze is on your preview window. Then set your preview window to best full resolution (to ensure you get good quality of your frozen frame). Now hit the small button on the top of your preview window that says "COPY" and select a location to save the image and save as .png or .jpg if allowed. The image saved will be just that frame thats showing in your preview window. Remember the captured image will reflect the quality setting of the preview window so make sure its on 'best full'. Import this image back into vegas from wherever you saved it. Then hit S to split the clip at the same location (provided you havent moved the play line head after grabbing the frame). The clip will split into 2. Just insert this image between the space where you split the clip. Stretch the image out for as long as you want it to run on the timeline. Eg. 2 secs. Once the 2 secs is over, the rest of the clip will continue to play. Thats it. You will have 2 sec freeze in your video and then it will continue. If you want this frame to be B&W or something else in look then just edit in photoshop to b&w or as you desire. Then import into the split area. You can also alternately get it to B&W by adding Vegas' own b&w video effect, but this will put unnecessary strain on your processor (unless you want to animate the B&W effect etc). LOL. I know its a long explanation but since you say you a newbie i thought ill give you a step by step. Bye.

So-
.png export/reimport;
velocity envelope; or
copy/save/split/paste (w/caveat--preview quality = copy quality)

great info here.
Thanks everyone!

Actually, I think applying a Velocity Envelope is the easiest way. Just add two nodes and drop the velocity to 0% at that point. No extra files to import and re-import or anything else.

HI Jedi > I told him the photo method could be used when they want a change in look also. Like to B&W. As if freezing to photo. And then photo slowly bleaches white. Ala some hollywood movies. Then sometimes i think a photo is easier to use. Or else these effects will have to be laid onto the whole clip and then keyframed to activate exactly at the velocity change point. Plus he says hes a newbie. Or at least the last guy (before my post) say he is.
