Freelance/Video production... Resumé?

OK. I'm bidding on a couple of jobs, and for some reason they want a resume.

This is a bit strange to me as in 10 years, I haven't sent in a resume for freelance work... just sent quotes/estimates, work samples and maybe a short gear list and/or work experience summary.

At a bit of a loss on how to do this. Do I simply list my company with myself as Grand Imperial Poobah and a writeup of clients/projects? List individual clients/projects? Draw a really bitchin' picture of a steampunk dragon riding a motorcycle with an Apache 30mm chaingun sidecar blasting across the alkali flats of Utah?

Thoughts and wisecracks appreciated. Thanks

They are so used to corporate thinking, that a resume is their only way of hiring. If you want the jobs, build a basic resume and client/project list. I would probably only list the biggest names of your past clients unless one of the little ones turned out particularly impressive.

That is weird. 25 years in this business, I've never been asked that. But I guess you need to humor the corporate drone mindset if you want them as a client.

I've definitely been asked for a resume, but that's usually just a sign that the person asking doesn't know much about video production. You should have a one pager that suits what you do, IMHO opinion, just for these and other situations when someone needs to understand what you do and what you bring to the table in written form. It does not need to look like Resume 101 online template with education and such listed. List what's relevant: Brief descriptive paragraph of what you do/provide/approach/etc, services provided, references, recent clients/projects/experience. etc.

It's really a written portfolio.
