Freelance Editing: FCP or Vegas?

Hello all,

I'm new here and loving it. I have used Vegas for about 4 years now and cut 5 projects. I love Vegas, but I'm at the point where I want to start editing freelance and the professional world seems to respect FCP and Avid the most. Can someone with professional experience, using Vegas, chime in here and talk about NLE software in the real world as it pertains to getting paid jobs in either the television or film industry.

I joined this thread because I am ready to switch over to Mac and FCP if necessary in order to start landing some professional work. On Craig's list, for example, I've never seen any requests for "Vegas" editors, only FCP or Avid.

I'm not interested in the mac vs. PC argument. I have used both extensively and am able to achieve results on both plotforms. They each have advantages that have been explored ad nausiem.

My latest short film can be seen here if you like; www.wiremonkey.com/videos/demons.wmv.

It was edited using Vegas 3.0 and shot on an SVHS camcorder (all I can afford right now).

Thank you,

T-

There's not much call for Vegas editors, professionally, at this time. To work as a pro, Avid and FCP (but mostly Avid) are the show.

I think that could change if Sony is smart about developing Vegas (and Vegas 6 is adding more high-end pro features, so they just might be). But currently, Avid still rules the roost and FCP is respected.
